Liverpool cool interest in Chelsea defender Levi Colwill

Liverpool stance on signing Chelsea star Levi Colwill in January has been made clear.

Levi Colwill on Liverpool radar

Liverpool’s defense has taken a heavy blow with Giovanni Leoni ruled out for the season after suffering an ACL injury. This leaves the Reds with only few senior center backs fit enough to play.

Head coach Arne Slot and his team have had chats internally about signing another defender when the transfer window opens, as per reports. But, the final call is yet to be taken. The club is tracking several names, but there’s no official move as of yet.

Levi Colwill continues to be admired by the PL title holders. He has been showing his top game since breaking through at Chelsea. However, sources close to the club insist Liverpool know the youngster is unavailable. Chelsea have no plans to sell. With Colwill recovering from a knee injury, any potential deal looks impossible in January for now. That reality has cooled Liverpool’s initial interest, even though they’ve been keeping tabs on him for over a year.

Other targets under the radar

The Reds’ recruitment department are looking at more options in the market. Marc Guehi, who nearly joined Liverpool last summer in a £35m move, is now considering his future at Crystal Palace. He’s likely to finish the season there, play in the World Cup, and then decide on his next club.

Transfer talks are also in progress to extend the contract of Konate before Real Madrid submits an offer. At this stage, the club’s interest appears more toward keeping players in the squad. For now, they are not pursuing players they are aware are unlikely to be signed. Unless something changes in January, Liverpool will likely keep faith in their existing defenders.

Author’s Opinion:

Liverpool’s approach makes sense. Chasing Colwill now would be a waste of time and resources. Slot’s real challenge is keeping his current defenders fit and focused, not dreaming about signings that aren’t on the table.
