Now to the Intrigues…

  • Opening Weekend and the Exciting Features

The starting date for the 2025/2026 is Friday, August 15, 2025. Liverpool will set the ball rolling with a side they mercilessly walloped 9-0 three years back. A day after, it would be the turn of two UEFA Champions League contenders – Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Burnley and Tottenham will also be slugging it out later that Saturday afternoon.

All eyes will, however, be on Manchester City that night as they showcase the rebuilding efforts they’ve been making when they meet Wolverhampton Wanderers. On Sunday, Arsenal and the Red Devils will start their campaign against each other in a match that promises to be dramatic.

  • Early Test for the Dethroned Champions

Pep Guardiola’s side, Manchester City, is billed to have a difficult start with fixtures against traditionally stubborn sides. Once the Wolves test is passed, Man City will be up against Tottenham, Brighton, Man United, and Arsenal.

With Kelvin De Bruyne no longer available and the team struggling even at the just-concluded Club World Cup, the club will be the favourites if they successfully navigate these early fixtures.

  • Opening Fixtures for Arsenal Look Very Tough

It’s not only Manchester City that faces a tough start; Arsenal, too, will have hard bones to rattle early into the season.

Commenting on Arsenal’s opening game against Liverpool, Alex Keble predicts that: “If Liverpool wins that [match], then with Man City and Arsenal both likely to drop early points, Arne Slot’s side can pick up where they left off and race into an early lead.”

The pressure will really be on Mikel Arteta, seeing how close his side was to clinching the league title in previous years, but they were shy of it.

  • Reversed Roles At Mid-Season for Two Title Contenders

While Liverpool enjoys a relatively easy start into the season, the table is set to turn come April and May, 2026. During this period, the Gunners will only have Newcastle and Man City as the only top teams to contend with.

The same is true for Manchester City who will only have Chelsea and Arsenal as the only two top teams in their last 10 games. However, the Never walk alone team will be sweating it out with Villa, Man United, Chelsea, and Brendfort in their last fixtures.

  • Another December to Remember

It will not be holiday time for Premier League clubs during the festive season. That’s because plenty of exciting fixtures have been lined up between December 27, 2025 and January 7, 2026, totalling 40 matches.

Some of the headline matches slated for December 27 include Man United vs Newcastle, Chelsea vs Aston Villa, Forest vs Manchester City.

Throwing more light on why the festive season is usually busy in the Premier League, Ben Blossom, writing for the Premier League explain thus: “With the creation of the Football League in 1888, the festive period was seen as the ideal time to cram in as much football as possible to cater to the masses during the holiday period.”

  • Tottenham to Face a Difficult November & December

No doubt, Tottenham Hotspur is one of the top teams to look out for in the upcoming English Premiership. With a new coach in the person of Thomas Frank, all eyes are on the team to see how it will be transformed. Thankfully, the first few matches are relatively easy except for their second match against Manchester City.

But their lineups in November are admittedly hectic, prompting analysts to predict that their competitiveness for the title may be determined in November. Chelsea, Man United, and Arsenal are the three teams they will face in succession, after which they have to play Newcastle, Liverpool, and Bradford.

  • Sunderland: The Easiest Starter Among the Rest

Of the three teams recently promoted to the Premier League, Sunderland has the easiest start. Their first three games are against West Ham, Burnley, and Brentford. Hopefully, they can get a few points from these fixtures to solidify their place on the table.

Wrapping Up

The next Premier League season promises to be exciting as always, and while some teams may be categorized as easy or weak, it’s only on paper. The real game is played on the pitch, and that’s where the boys are separated from the men. One thing the game has taught everyone is that anything can happen so long the referee hasn’t blown the final whistle.
