Man Utd Eyeing Surprise Move For Nick Pope

Manchester United are exploring the chance to bring in experienced shot-stopper Nick Pope from Newcastle United.

Nick Pope on United’s Radar

Manchester United have plans in place to revamp the team this summer. They are now targeting Nick Pope as a possible addition to their goalkeeper options, as per talkSport.

Since joining Newcastle, Pope has been a prominent presence under head coach Eddie Howe. However, he has had bad luck with injuries. Also, the club’s change in plans means that he could be on his way out of St James’ Park. The Englishman is currently on a salary of around £100k-a-week. He is entering the last year of his current contract. So, that would mean he could be available and at a bargain in today’s market.

The Magpies have been working on a deal for Aaron Ramsdale. Once that’s sealed, Pope’s spot as first-choice keeper could come under serious threat. The Red Devils are keeping tabs on the situation. They are reportedly prepared to move if the keeper is made available.

Amorim Wants Competition for Onana in Goal

New manager Ruben Amorim has already added attacking options like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. But, he is now focused on adding depth in goal. Andre Onana has been Utd’s No. 1 goalkeeper. Although, he has not had serious competition for that spot.

The club has an idea of bringing in an experienced keeper. They want someone dependable and with leadership. Pope’s experience in the Premier League makes him a viable option.

Meanwhile, Emi Martinez is out of the club’s price range. Belgian U21 goalkeeper Senne Lammens will take some time to come still. Although, Pope may not come with resale value at 33. But, Man Utd are more interested in his immediate impact.

If Newcastle finalise the Ramsdale deal, Pope’s exit could be fast-tracked. That will give United the opening they need. A moderate fee will likely seal the deal. That said, this move could give the Red Devils a dependable backup or even competition for Onana next season.
