Man Utd Hit Hard at Brentford– Full Ratings Show the Flaws

Man Utd suffered its third Premier League defeat of the season, beaten 3-1 by Brentford on Saturday. The Reds fell 2-0 behind after Igor Thiago answered defensive errors in the first 20 minutes. Benjamin Sesko’s first Man Utd goal gave hope but Bruno Fernandes’ missed penalty and Mathias Jensen’s late effort left Ruben Amorim’s side with a difficult task.

The display once again exposed recurring defensive problems and tactical deficiencies, calling into question the squad’s readiness and morale among observers back home.

Goalkeeper & Defence

Altay Bayindir – 6/10– Good saves from van den Berg and Collins, but misjudged the second goal, palming Schade’s cross into danger.

Harry Maguire – 4/10– Lost Thiago for the opener; a nightmarish outing which took fanks back to Brentford 2022.

Matthijs de Ligt – 5/10– Slow to react for the second goal; poor timing in tackles.

Luke Shaw – 5/10– Sloppy possession, repeatedly misfired passes under pressure.

Diogo Dalot – 5/10– Disjointed with De Ligt, allowed Schade space to assist Brentford’s second.

Midfield & Attack

Manuel Ugarte – 5/10– Lacked aggression; minimal impact on counter disruption or creative play.

Bruno Fernandes – 4/10– Missed an important penalty and picked up a caution for a high tackle.

Patrick Dorgu – 6/10– Injected a little of attacking flair and came close to an equaliser.

Matheus Cunha – 5/10– Worked hard but rarely threatened Brentford.

Benjamin Sesko – 5/10– Scored first United goal but faded after initial impact.

Bryan Mbeumo – 5/10– Earned penalty but offered little else.

Substitutes: Kobbie Mainoo – 7/10 | Leny Yoro – 6/10 | Mason Mount – N/A | Joshua Zirkzee – N/A

Author Opinion: Amorim Under Pressure

Ruben Amorim (4/10) now faces intense scrutiny. Defensive errors dominated the display, but selection choices, notably delaying Yoro and Mainoo’s introduction, raise questions. United’s continued weaknesses require quick tactical fixes, notably defensively and at midfield for some creativity — or the results and fan patience will be even worse. It’s all adding up and if they’re not sorted out sharpish, the club could be heading for more Premier League unpleasantness.
