Chelsea’s Marc Guiu has signed for Sunderland on a season-long loan deal, to see the 2025/26 through. The 19-year-old Spanish forward, who joined from Barcelona at the start of this summer, meanwhile, can now expect to gain first team experience in The Championship side under new head coach Régis Le Bris, known for nurturing young attacking talent.
It’s a straight loan, with no option to buy — an indication Chelsea still consider Guiu as one of the club’s future prospects. Sunderland will fund his wages in full as part of the deal.
Guiu to Play Key Role Under Le Bris
Guiu impressed at Barcelona last season, scoring for the senior side 23 seconds after coming on as a substitute. Chelsea signed him in June for about €6 million, seeing him as a potent and promising No. 9.
Despite having a sensational pre-season, Chelsea decided to loan him due to their strung frontline. Sunderland needed an attacker and offered a clear route to first team experience earn growth.
Le Bris regards Guiu as a key part of his front-line and was eager to push through the deal. His signing is another indication of how serious Sunderland are about making an immediate return to the Premier League, with Granit Xhaka having arrived last week.
No Buy Clause Signals Chelsea’s Long-Term Belief
Chelsea had been insistent they did not want to include any kind of buy option in the deal. Therefore, the Blues view Guiu as a potential first-team candidate and expect him to return better equipped to make an impression next season.
The transfer is in line with Chelsea’s overarching youth development policy of loaning some of the best young prospects to gain experience at clubs where they are under pressure.
Marc Guiu is tipped to link up with Sunderland in the next few days and may even feature for them in their first league match.
