Mourinho returns to Chelsea for UCL clash

Mourinho is preparing to make his presence felt as he will face Chelsea in the UCL with Benfica.

Chelsea set to face Jose Mourinho and Benfica

It’s been almost 20 years since Jose Mourinho first left Chelsea with a squad full of tears and disbelief.
Mourinho left the Blues in 2015. While some may not have memories of love for him, no one could argue that he has an enigmatic presence.

Benfica is now in the process of making a visit to London to take on Chelsea in the UCL. Once more, Jose Mourinho is the man in focus.

It hasn’t been an easy road back. Just weeks ago, Mourinho left Fenerbahce, having been dismissed due to disappointing results. The longer odds warned against anyone betting on a return to management. That all changed as soon as Benfica’s Rui Costa inquired about him.

Of course, Jose didn’t hesitate in turning the offer down. But, the opportunity outweighed the price tag. Jose can’t turn down playing in the UCL.

A different club, same fire

Those close to him, say this version of Mourinho is calmer, more willing to listen, and less egocentric. Still, some habits haven’t changed. He’s already fired shots at referees, called out VAR, and criticised his own squad after dropping points. Benfica fans will see a manager determined to turn setbacks into statements.

Mourinho’s trophy cabinet has 26 titles from Porto to Roma. Yet, it’s been ten years since his last league crown and five since his last UCL game. That drought makes his return to Stamford Bridge even more significant.

For him, Tuesday night isn’t just about Benfica. It’s about showing the football world that Jose Mourinho still has fight left in him.

Author’s Opinion:

Mourinho’s return to Chelsea will be interesting. Fans love him, hate him but they cannot ignore him, and that is just how he likes it.
