Oliver Glasner eyeing Eze replacement following Arsenal’s interest

Palace boss Oliver Glasner lining up a potential replacement if Eberechi Eze makes a summer switch to Arsenal.

Oliver Glasner to pick for midfield makeover

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has reportedly planning to pursue Lucas Paqueta as the ideal successor to Eberechi Eze. This comes after Eze remains a top transfer target for Arsenal. The Englishman’s exit is looking more likely by the day. So, Glasner is eager to bring in a player who can add quality and experience.

As per journalist Steve Kay, Paqueta has been marked as a key target. The Eagles are keeping a close eye on his situation at West Ham.

Although, the Hammers have not put a public price tag on the Brazilian playmaker. But, reports suggest a figure close to £55m might get the deal done. Palace are expected to act quickly if Eze is lured to North London before the September 1 deadline.

Paqueta’s tough spell could lead to fresh start

Paqueta had a tough season last year. He only contributed four goals in 33 league games. That was his lowest output since joining West Ham from Lyon in 2022. He also faced the ongoing scrutiny of an investigation into alleged breaches of betting rules, which has now been concluded. That issue has clearly affected his rhythm at West Ham. So, a move could create a much-needed clean state for his career.

Palace see appeal in player, not only for aspect of creativity and potential, but also big-game experience. Paqueta would presumably earn around £150k-a-week, and would most likely be the club’s top wage earner if signed.

In the meantime, Marc Guehi is attracting interest from PL champions Liverpool as well. This means Palace’s transfer team will have to be very alert in the final days and weeks of the transfer window.
