PSG eyes Gavi as next big Barcelona catch

As per reports, PSG might make an unexpected move for the young Barcelona midfielder Gavi.

Gavi on PSG wishlist

Paris Saint-Germain’s obsession with Barcelona talent might not be over yet. The French champions last season triumphed with a treble. They are already looking at Gavi from the Catalan pool with the desire for the same success this season. Head coach Luis Enrique has witnessed Gavi’s journey with the Spanish national team is very optimistic about the kid.

The connection between PSG and Barca players is extremely old. Given their history, the chance of a big-name transfer between the two clubs is not far-fetched in any way. Gavi’s combination of hardness and talent is precisely what the new coach Luis Enrique wants from his midfield, a bright, smart, and aggressive during the transition player. The fact that Gavi is presently healing from a knee injury does not stop the coach from counting on the player’s future and thus thinking that the wait is worth it.

Luis Enrique is eager to have the player as part of an update of his bodily shape, revealing the player’s role within him for some sporting purposes. Consequently, PSG hierarchy is in close talks to make Gavi’s move happen.

Despite injuries, PSG still keen on Gavi

Gavi’s current spell on the sidelines hasn’t stopped speculation. The midfielder featured in Barca’s first two league games before picking up a serious right knee injury during training in August. Initial fears of another ACL tear, after he had already missed nearly a year with the same issue in 2023, sent shockwaves through the club. Scans revealed that it was a nonrecurring incident and, luckily, but he still needed to have surgery done and will take about five months off.

Still, the French capital club seems to be truly interested in the player. Reports claim Enrique has kept tabs on Gavi’s recovery and still views him as a priority for next summer. Furthermore, Dembele, who is currently flourishing in Paris, rekindled speculations about a possible reunion through sharing an old photo of him along with Gavi taken during their Barcelona era. It was a minor act, yet the supporters effortlessly and quickly interpreted the hidden message. For PSG, adding a midfielder like Gavi would be a statement move, both for his on-pitch talent and what it symbolizes, another piece of Barcelona’s young core being tempted to cross the border.

Barca’s stand

For Barca, losing Gavi would be more than just another transfer, it would sting. Not only is he a regular starter, but also a manifestation of the team’s new generation, a La Masia graduate who simply cannot help but support the club’s colors. The team is pursuing Real Madrid in the title fight, and his not being there is already a huge loss.

But still, the strain of financial pressures on Barca is the best-kept secret. PSG has the resources that can test Barca. Whether it’s a record bid or player swap, the French side has multiple ways to tempt them. Barca, though, know they can’t afford another talent drain. After seeing Messi, Neymar, and others depart, they’ll be desperate to hold onto Gavi. That is not just for what he brings on the field, but for what he represents to the fans.

Author’s Opinion:

In case PSG seriously pursue Gavi, next summer’s transfer wars would include his deal as one of the biggest ones. Although he is injured, it might take a while for things to get back to his best. But the excitement would still continue. For now, Barca will fight to keep him, but when PSG start calling, few stories stay quiet for long.
