Premier League champions Liverpool have signed left-back Milos Kerkez for £40m from Bournemouth.
Milos Kerkez Bolsters Liverpool’s Left Flank in £40m Move
Liverpool have completed the signing of 21-year-old Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a £40m deal. This move takes their summer spending to nearly £170m.
The Hungarian left-back becomes the third major arrival at Anfield this transfer window. He is following midfielder Florian Wirtz and right-back Jeremie Frimpong to join the Reds.
Kerkez has penned a five-year contract, bringing serious energy to Arne Slot’s backline. The young talent was key to the Cherries as a starter in all 38 Premier League appearances and contributed to the club’s all time highest points total of 56.
He consistently impressed with his nonstop running, explosive overlapping runs with the ball, and precise crossing. The defender had a total of seven goal involvement in the process.
After signing with AC Milan Kerkez, is now continuing to show his class at the highest level. Liverpool are clearly convinced he can compete at the very top level.
Robertson’s Spot Under Threat as Slot Reshapes the Squad
Kerkez’s arrival in late July creates competition for left-back Andy Robertson. He has had that role since 2017. The Scot played 33 games last season across all competitions. But, some stats suggest Kerkez came out on top in categories like assists, sprints, distance covered, and ball recoveries.
Atletico Madrid are looking to sign Robertson this window. So, Arne Slot may wish to have a different option available if an opportunity presents itself. Kerkez’s defensive stats also measure up favourably. He was also in the top 20 for full-backs in interceptions and recoveries per 90 minutes.
One of his standout games was against PL giants Man City. In his side’s thrilling 2-1 win against City, he went 90 yards to set up both goals.
Liverpool are looking to have another run at the title. Slot now has a good mix of youth and experience. Kerkez has every chance to become a key name in the Reds’ next chapter.
