Rio Ferdinand Pushes United Towards Midfield Overhaul

Rio Ferdinand tells Man United to go for Prem star Carlos Baleba instead of chasing another striker this summer.

Rio Ferdinand Urges United to Prioritize Midfield

Former Manchester Utd defender Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Ruben Amorim should steer clear of signing a new striker. Rio thinks the United head coach should instead put his focus and funds into Brighton’s rising talent Carlos Baleba.

The Red Devils’ attacking line were underperforming last season. So, many assumed the club would go all-in for a new centre-forward. Players like Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined for just seven league goals. That has sparked rumours of a potential move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

However, Ferdinand isn’t convinced that another forward is the answer. That is especially the one yet to prove himself in the EPL. Man Utd have already spent over £130m on attacking options like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. But, neither are natural strikers. Given that, the fans are raising doubts about their club’s current transfer strategy.

Baleba Tipped as the Right Fit for Amorim’s Midfield

The former Utd defender believes the real problem lies in the middle of the park. He has backed 21-year-old Carlos Baleba as the missing piece. The Brighton midfielder stood out last season with his energy, drive, and fearless presence. He made 34 appearances in his debut PL campaign.

He joined the Seagulls from Lille for £26m. He has quickly built a name as one of the league’s brightest young midfielders. He has ability to break up play and push forward with purpose. That fits the kind of system Amorim is likely to have at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand’s message is clear, Red Devils should not spend big money at another striker. Instead, they must go all in for Baleba. He already knows the league and has proven he can deliver. Whether United take the advice remains to be seen. But, fans might just agree that midfield control is the way forward.
