Fabrizio Romano shares Eze to Arsenal update amid release clause expiry.
No formal talks yet for Eze shares Romano
Arsenal have an increasing interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze. But, as per Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners still have not spoken to Palace directly. Now, the player’s release clause is nearing its expiration.
Eze has a £68m release clause which is expiring very soon. He is believed to be keen on the move to the Emirates. However, Arsenal have not yet started club-to-club talks with Palace yet. They are likely to be interested, though are not rushing on and are considered to still be in the mix.
The North London side already dropped some serious cash in this window. They got Viktor Gyokeres for £63.5m from Sporting and Chelsea’s Noni Madueke for £52m. Still, Mikel Arteta seems keen to further strengthen his attack before the EPL season.
Time running out to trigger Palace star clause
The EPL campaign just around the corner. Arsenal are aware that they must act swiftly if they want to trigger Eze’s release clause. Reports suggest that the clause expires two weeks before the season kicks off. That gives the Gunners a very short window to make their move.
Meanwhile, Eze is on a strong £100k-a-week deal at Selhurst Park. Sources close to the player say he is open to joining Arsenal if the opportunity arises. After a trophyless campaign, Arteta isn’t taking chances. He wants more attacking depth before their tough season opener against Manchester United.
The North London fans would surely love to see his flair and creativity next season. However, without a proper bid soon, the opportunity may pass from the hands of the Gunners.
As it stands, Arsenal must decide quickly. They can either strike now or risk watching Eze stay put at Palace or attract interest from elsewhere.
