Ruben Amorim is staring at a host of expensive Manchester United problems. What was supposed to be a fresh start is quickly turning into a messy situation.
Transfer Woes and Missed Targets Pile Up
Manchester United’s summer was expected to bring swift changes. Head coach Ruben Amorim is planning a clear-out of unwanted players and a rebuild to suit his 3-4-3 system.
But just weeks before their Premier League opener against Arsenal, little progress has been made. Instead of a refreshed squad, Utd look nearly same to the one that finished last season. The one bright spot was the £62.5m signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
However, other key targets have slipped through the cracks. The club has failed to secure a single target during this time. This has frustrated Amorim and he fans alike.
Squad Unrest and Injuries Add to the Trouble for Ruben Amorim
Amorim has decided to isolate players including Rashford, Garnacho, Sancho, Antony, and Malacia. That has caused tension within the squad. Only Rashford and Garnacho will likely bring in big transfer fees. Interest in the others has been close to nothing. This is primarily because of their wages and a perceived lack of form over the last season.
There are cost cutting measures being taken off the field. Recent changes to key backroom staff uncertainty and nothing is clear whoever can be chosen to be in goal on match day. At the worst, there is a hamstring injury for keeper Andre Onana. And there’s no new No. 1 lined up for the Red Devils.
So, this could lead to a start of the season that could be even worse than expected. Man Utd fans were promised a fresh era under new boss Ruben Amorim. But so far, it feels like more of the same.
