Manchester United’s struggles on the road deepened with a 3-1 defeat at Brentford, leaving Ruben Amorim once again searching for answers. The Portuguese coach was subjected to chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning” as United’s winless away run stretched to eight Premier League games. Early defensive lapses cost them dearly, Benjamin Sesko’s goal offered brief hope, and Bruno Fernandes’ missed penalty sealed another painful afternoon.
Ruben Amorim frustrated with lack of control
Post-match, Amorim admitted United had fallen into Brentford’s trap. “The feeling is always the same. Of course we want to win. I think we didn’t control the game. We played the game of Brentford. Really confused. Second balls, first balls, set pieces. And all the crucial moments they were against us,” he told TNT Sports.
The manager felt his team showed only flashes of the spirit that carried them past Chelsea last week. “Yeah, in some moments. But we can do better. That is the main point,” he added.
Defensive concerns mount for United
Amorim was again critical of United’s defending, particularly from long balls and set-pieces.
“The first ball was a long ball after a recovery. We work on that during the week. Set pieces we work on that also. We need to do better,” he explained.
While he highlighted short spells of control, Amorim admitted his players allowed Brentford to dictate too many battles. “We need to play our game, not the opponent’s,” he said. With Sunderland next up before the international break, the manager stressed: “We need to win every game and we are not doing that.”
Author’s opinion
Amorim’s honesty reflects the scale of United’s problems. His side look vulnerable at the back, fragile in confidence, and too easily disrupted. Unless results change quickly, frustration from fans and pressure on the manager will only intensify.
