Sesko stays in Germany instead of leaving for Manchester United

Manchester United

Before the Euro 2024 starts, Benjamin Sesko has extended his contract with RB Leipzig shutting down all the talks of him leaving for Manchester United. The 21 years old Slovenian striker has signed a new deal which is valid until June 2029. This contract extension has shut down all the chances of him leaving the club in this summer transfer window.

Sesko had an incredible debut season in the Bundesliga. In 17 league games, he scored a total of 14 goals with 2 assists which is very impressive. Several big clubs took notice on his form. Some of those names include Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Minority owner of Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, was very much keen on signing the Slovenian striker. He felt that with Sesko up front, the squad could create a link between him and Rasmus Hojlund which would improve their numbers. He believed that Sesko would be very much beneficial for the club.

Benjamin Sesko at RB Leipzig

Benjamin Sesko had an incredible debut season at Leipzig. Bagging a total of 20 goal contributions in 42 games is incredible. Before Leipzig, he played at Red Bull Salzburg where he scored 21 goals in 55 games. He is one of the most promising young strikers in the market right now. RB Leipzig bought him for a fee of €24 million. It was a five years contract deal till 2028. However, he signed a new deal and extended it to another year. Manchester United’s approach towards Sesko

After the contract extension with Leipzig, it seems that the Reds won’t move forward with Sesko for this season. Manchester United needs to be careful and mindful of controlling all of their costs that exists through PSR. Manchester United wanted to trigger Sesko’s release clause. However, after the contract extension, the release clause has increased which is more than Man United planned on spending over Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United have other replacements for Benjamin Sesko. One of them is 23 years old Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee. The striker from Bologna has been incredible this season, securing a top four spot in the Serie A under Italian manager Thiago Motta. Standing at a value of €44 million, he has had 16 goal contributions in 34 games. Joshua Zirkzee was also called up by the Netherlands national team to play in the Euro 2024.

Apart from new signings, Manchester United are also planning on parting ways with some of their players which include names like Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. They could get a good amount from Sancho as he was a finalist in the Champions League. But the case of Marcus Rashford is different. He is a Man United academic graduate but due to his poor form last season, his market value went down. It carried on going downwards when he wasn’t called up to play for England in the Euro.

Manchester United, as reports say, are in no hurry. They want to explore every possibility through which they can improve their squad and challenge for the league title.
