Manchester United are trying to sign Ligue 1 striker Jonathan David. It is being said that the striker is available for just £20m.
Who is Jonathan David?
Jonathan David is a Canadian forward who plays for top-tier French club Losc Lille. When he used to play for Belgian club Gent FC, he showed his talents in terms of goalscoring, providing assists and other things. Ligue 1 club Lille invested in his talent and bought him for €30m. Now he is the most in demand striker in the transfer market. Currently he is representing Canada in the Copa America. In this season he has bagged 26 goals all across the competitions. At this moment he is one of the most in demand forwards. Clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal have showed interest in the striker.
At this moment, Manchester United have Rasmus Hojlund for the striker position. Out of 30 league appearances he scored 10 goals for the red devils in 2023-2024 season. On the other hand Jonathan David has played 34 Ligue 1 games and has scored 19 goals for Lille. This goal scoring stats proves that David is a much better option than Hojlund. There is certainly a big difference between Ligue 1 and English Premier League. But stats can’t lie to some extent.
Why United want the Ligue 1 striker?
Jonathan David is more of a player who wants to help the team rather than scoring goals for own interest.
In an interview David said, ‘To be honest, I’m not really looking to be the headline player. I’m a striker, so my job is to score goals. And, as everyone knows, attackers usually get the glory. But in my positioning and in my movement, I’m thinking about what’s going to help the team, not just to make myself a hero. Of course I want to have good stats but that is not the starting point.‘
Possibility of the transfer
According to GIVEMESPORT the striker is interested in a Premier League move. But there is a twist in this transfer saga. The Red Devils will go after the Ligue 1 striker Jonathan David if they don’t sign former Bayern Munich player Joshua Zirkzee. According to various sources it is being said that Zirkzee will cost roughly around £37m. So, Jonathan David is a cheaper option than Zirkzee.

The young forward has multiple attributes. He is known for his blistering pace and flashy flair. On top of that he can convert difficult chances into goals. He can score with his both feet. For these multiple qualities he is the dream striker for every team. He has drawn attention from all over the Europe. Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham, Aston Villa are said to be interested to sign the striker. If United can pull of this signing under everyone’s nose, it will certainly elevate their performance and goalscoring threat.
