United and City Target Sporting Midfielder

Man United and City are eyeing a move for Denmark international Morten Hjulmand ahead of a big summer transfer window.

Red Devils Set Sights on Hjulmand as Midfield Fix

Manchester Utd are looking for a new defensive midfielder this summer. They have identified Sporting Lisbon captain Morten Hjulmand as their prime target.

The Dane has been playing very well in Portugal. He joined from Lecce in Italy for £15m in 2023. Since arriving at Sporting, Hjulmand likes the new manager Ruben Amorim. He has established himself well by playing well last season that was him top of the wishlist.

The player played 47 matches the previous season and scored three goals and two assists. He has been recognized for his attitude on the pitch. The Red Devils have already added players to the attacking unit with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. So, now they want Hjulmand in the middle of the park.

City Join the Race With United

Manchester City have also entered the race for Hjulmand’s signature. They are adding pressure to their local rivals. City’s sporting director Hugo Viana has previously worked at Sporting. So, he could play a key role in the move. However, Sporting have shown they won’t sell on the cheap.

Reports suggest they are demanding the full £69m release clause. They have already turned down a £35m bid from Juventus. Their stance in recent talks shows United and City will have to up their game. Meanwhile, Hjulmand is reportedly “happy” in Portugal. Although, interest from two of England’s biggest clubs could be hard to ignore. Both Manchester sides are in need to bolster midfield depth and leadership. So, the coming weeks could see a tug-of-war. One thing’s clear, Morten Hjulmand won’t come for any low fee, but he might just be worth every penny.
