Man United are reportedly making a late push to land Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough. This comes despite Ipswich being close to sealing the move.
United revive interest in Middlesbrough playmaker
Manchester Utd are believed to be weighing up a late move to snatch Hayden Hackney from under Ipswich Town’s nose, as per GIVEMESPORT.
The Middlesbrough midfielder has already received the go-ahead to discuss personal terms with Ipswich after a £20m bid was accepted. But, the deal has yet to cross the finish line. This delay has opened the door for Man Utd. They have tracked Hackney for quite some time and are planning to join the race.
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim has already adding Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to his squad this summer. Although, the Red Devils are clearly not finished in the market. Club insiders suggest there’s real interest in Hackney, especially as they look to add more depth in midfield. This comes after a disappointing season that ended without European football or silverware.
Ipswich leading the race
Ipswich Town remain favourites to land Hackney at the moment. But, the player’s camp is aware of interest from elsewhere, which includes both Man Utd, Everton and Tottenham. Sources close to the situation suggest that Amorim is hopeful of turning Hackney’s head before a medical is completed. With the player not rushing to finalise terms with Ipswich, United could still slide in with an offer.
Hackney had a solid season with Middlesbrough. He has earned high praise from former boss Michael Carrick, who knows Old Trafford inside out. The player has also made waves with England’s U21 team, winning the European Championship. He has proved his ability to handle big moments.
United’s recruitment team has identified the midfielder as a value buy in a market. Whether this late approach works remains to be seen. But, one thing is clear, Man United are not done shopping.
