United Get Boost as Villa Hunt for Watkins Successor

Manchester United get transfer boost as Aston Villa seriously considering move to sign Ollie Watkins replacement.

Villa set to act as United circle Watkins

Manchester United‘s interest in Ollie Watkins is picking up pace at the moment. Now, Aston Villa are preparing for life without their top striker.

Reports suggest the Villa board are making real moves to find a possible successor. That said, RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda is on their radar. The Belgian has been in fine form for the German side, netting 41 goals in 89 games across all competitions.

Meanwhile, a deal for Watkins to Old Trafford isn’t close yet. But, insiders believe Ruben Amorim sees the Englishman as an ideal fit for his system. The Red Devils are also eyeing Benjamin Sesko. So, the competition remains fierce, but Watkins’ PL experience could give him the edge. Amorim values players ready to hit the ground running, and Watkins offers exactly that.

Openda on the radar

The Villans aren’t sitting idle as Utd hover over their top forward. There’s growing confidence that Openda could be the man to lead their line if Watkins makes an exit. The Leipzig star won’t come cheap, with estimates placing his value north of €60m.

However, for a club with UCL ambitions, Villa appear ready to spend big. Newcastle have also been tracking Sesko which could allow Man Utd to land Watkins. It is certainly a striker dilemma that is far from settled. But, Aston Villa is looking for a top replacement and preparing for an exit.

Man United is moving slower than most of the other interested clubs. So, that is a worry in itself, but this could trigger some urgency soon. Whether it’s Watkins or Sesko, one thing is clear, big changes are coming in the striker market this summer transfer window.
