Man United are interested in Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez. The Red Devils are heading into transfer market to bolster their goalkeeping options.
United Eyeing Aston Villa Star
Manchester United have reportedly made a loan offer to sign Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez, as per The Daily Mail.
So far, Utd have only made two signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. They are looking for more from this window ahead of the pre-season tour to the USA. It is a priority for new head coach Ruben Amorim to strengthen the goalkeeping role. Now, Martinez is on their wishlist.
The Argentine is known for his commanding presence and shot-stopping ability. He has been called “world-class” by Sky Sports pundit Dan Bardell. Martinez is likely to leave Villa Park this summer. That is especially after the Midlands club missed out on UCL spot. So, that may push them to raise funds through player sales.
Player Keen on Old Trafford Switch
Although, the Red Devils have made their move, Aston Villa were quick to reject the initial loan proposal. They are insisting that they won’t let their star keeper leave without fair bid. So, Villa are open to a permanent sale. They are not entertaining loan deals unless they come with clear financial benefits.
That said, Martinez is reportedly keen to move to Old Trafford. He views a switch as a step forward in his career. Argentine reports say that the goalkeeper has already green-lighted the move. United have also missed out on European football. But, they are still confident of getting their targets this summer.
Man Utd are also likely to follow up with Antwerp’s Senne Lammens. However, given Martinez’s stats and willingness to join, it looks like United could be favouring experienced goalkeepers. They want someone with leadership qualities for Amorim’s squad.
