Manchester United submit £34m offer to sign Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand. The Red Devils are now chasing a solid midfield option as the rebuild at Old Trafford continues.
Amorim Wants Sporting Midfielder
Manchester United have stepped up their summer business with a fresh bid of £34m for Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand, as per Calcio Mercato. The Dane has played under manager Ruben Amorim at Sporting.
Not to forget, Christian Eriksen has recently left the club. Further, Casemiro is uncertain about his future. As a result, Man Utd are in need for new players in midfield. So, Hjulmand is seen as a player who possesses strength, calmness and control in midfield. He has the qualities the Red Devils needed in and failed during a poor 2024-25 season.
His release clause is reported to be around £69m. But, Sporting are reported to be willing to let him go for £43m or so. Utd will try to finalise the move at their current offer. If that happens then they could be getting a top-tier player for a bargain.
More Midfield Movement Expected at Old Trafford
United’s summer has already seen the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. But, they are now focusing on fixing the midfield engine room. With Tottenham reportedly showing interest in young star Kobbie Mainoo, Utd can’t afford to be caught short.
Hjulmand has the ability to read the game and control the tempo. That would likely make him a valuable addition. Amorim knows exactly what the Dane brings to the table.
While fans have been frustrated with the slow transfer movement so far. Although, things seem to be picking up at just the right time. United still need to spend wisely, but moves like this show a clear plan is in place. The club’s intent to land a trusted figure could be key to rebuilding their team.
