Manchester United have cleared the path for Tottenham Hotspur to chase Alejandro Garnacho. The Red Devils hoping Spurs re-enter the race before Chelsea close in on his signing.
United want Tottenham back in the mix
Manchester Utd board have accepted that Chelsea are leading the chase for Garnacho. But, they believe Spurs can shake things up if they step back into the frame.
The Red Devils fear losing the winger for a cut-price deal if there’s no competition. That is why they’ve opened the door for Tottenham. Garnacho’s time in Manchester effectively ended months ago when boss Ruben Amorim told him to find a new club.
Despite his talent and flashes of brilliance last season, the Argentine hasn’t convinced the head coach. Now, Man Utd are eager to move him on. Chelsea are confident they can wrap up a deal around £30m. But, United want Tottenham involved to spark a bidding battle and protect the player’s value.
Garnacho facing decision time
With the transfer window closing fast, Garnacho is under pressure to secure his next move. Spurs had already tested the waters earlier this summer. But, Arsenal’s swoop for Eberechi Eze forced them to shift focus. Now, Man Utd are urging them to return for the winger, knowing Chelsea remain his preferred club.
The winger still has three years left on his contract worth £50,000 a week. Although, his relationship with Amorim has collapsed. United have already let Marcus Rashford leave on loan to Barcelona. The club has told Jadon Sancho to find a new challenge as well, so Garnacho is not alone.
But, while Chelsea look ready to pounce, United are desperate to see Spurs rejoin the race. They want Thomas Frank’s side to raise the stakes and avoid handing a gifted player away on the cheap.
Author’s Opinion
Garnacho has the spark to light up any frontline, but staying at United is no longer an option. If Tottenham want a game-changer, this is their chance to swoop before Chelsea seal the deal.
