Man United boss Ruben Amorim is rethinking his transfer approach for Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand.
Tough Stance of Sporting CP Cools off United Interest
Manchester Utd head coach Ruben Amorim has cooled off his interest in signing Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP, as per GIVEMESPORT.
The midfielder was once a top target for the Red Devils. Now, it seems that he is of reach due to Sporting’s ask of £70m release clause. Man Utd had hoped to reunite Amorim with his former player this summer. But, recent dealings with the Portuguese club, especially over striker Viktor Gyokeres, have left the Old Trafford in doubts.
Meanwhile, United are also having concerns over another transfer saga with Sporting. They are fearing the same issues they’ve already faced. Hjulmand was high on Amorim’s wishlist, especially with Christian Eriksen leaving on a free transfer. However, with Sporting standing firm, Man Utd are turning their eyes to other midfield targets.
Red Devils Turn Focus to Other Options
Amorim’s side will be missing out on European football. They have ended the last season trophyless as well. So, United have already started to make changes. The arrivals of Matheus Cunha for £62.5m and Bryan Mbeumo for £71m deal have set the tone.
However, Amorim still wants depth in the middle of the park. Meanwhile, Juventus have already taken steps and initiated contact with the Dane. Other clubs including Barcelona, Inter and Spurs are looking into the situation as well.
Nevertheless, the clock is ticking with the window open until September 1. Now, Man United are looking into other midfield options, and they are hoping they can get a more realistic price. The Utd boss still wants to change the squad ahead of the new season.
However, as it stands, a Morten Hjulmand and Ruben Amorim reunion looks off the table for now.
