Villarreal are interested in signing Chelsea defender Axel Disasi for a potential initial fee of around €30m. Discussions are continuing as the Spaniards work on strengthening their defence for next season’s Champions League.
Villarreal Open Talks With Chelsea
The La Liga outfit want to sign Disasi on a permanent basis, though they are also open to a loan deal with an option to buy. Villarreal are looking to bolster their defence ahead of their 2025/26 Champions League campaign. Disasi has become one of their top targets, and Villarreal have already made an initial approach to negotiate with Chelsea.
Villarreal’s recruitment team think Disasi’s profile as a player — Champions League experience, physicality, versatility — fits the bill for their backline. With the clock ticking in the window, they want to strike while the competition is relatively cool. The Spanish club have now begun talks with Chelsea to discuss the nature of a potential deal.
Despite links with Newcastle United and clubs in Serie A, Villarreal are front runners now. Others have not yet made a formal offer.
Chelsea Ready to Sell at a Loss
Chelsea are willing to sell Disasi, signed from Monaco last summer in a deal worth close to €45m. The Blues are demanding a fee in the region of €30 million but could take a hit on the €45 million they spent.
Disasi played 44 times during his first season but has since dropped down the hierarchy. Chelsea loaned him to Aston Villa in January 2025, where he made ten appearances, and excluded him from their Club World Cup squad.
With limited opportunities under Enzo Maresca and the new defenders coming in, the more likely it is that Disasi will depart. Villarreal are currently in talks with Chelsea and are eager to get an agreement over the line in the near future.
