Aston Villa Want To Sign A New Midfielder In The Transfer Window

Aston Villa is looking for a new midfielder to replace Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz. Luiz has agreed to join Juventus on a swap deal as the move is almost done. In return, Villa will get Samuel Ling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea of Juventus.

Douglas Luiz joined Aston Villa in 2019 from Manchester City. Since then, the Brazilian performed brilliantly at Villa Park and made 206 appearances in five consecutive seasons. Last season the 26-year-old made 53 appearances for Villa and scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions. Luiz was a crucial member of Villa’s squad, helping the villa to secure a fourth position in the Premier League and secure a Champions League position for the first time since 1983. Luiz’s performance attracts major European clubs. Juventus certainly comes first and sealed a move for the brazilian.

Douglas Luis will join Juventus in the summer on a swap deal after both parties agree with the terms. In return, Villa will get Samule Iliang Jr and Enzo Barrenechea. Juventus have to pay 28M more to complete the deal. Previously it was agreed that the American midfielder Weston McKennie will join Aston Villa. Villa have decided to make Enzo Barrenechea, part of the deal after Villa were unable to find an agreement with Weston MacKennie.

Illing junior will back to England after leaving Chelsea’s youth set-up before joining Italian giant Juventus. The winger made 45 appearances for the old lady after making his senior debut in 2022. On the other side, Enzo Barrenechea was on a loan spell last season In Frosinone and made 39 appearances in all competitions.

Aston Villa Eager To Sign New Midfielder

Despite getting Enzo Barrenechea in the swap deal who mainly plays as a central midfielder, Villa want to sign a new high-profile midfielder in the summer to replace Douglas Luiz.

Villa want to sign English midfielder Ross Barkley from Luton Town. Barkley made 37 appearances for the Hatters last season, scored 5 goals, and provided 6 assists across all competitions despite the club finishing 18th in the table. As per some reports, the Villa have to pay 5M if they want to sign Barkley.

Villa are also eager to sign Spanish midfielder Brais Mendez from Spanish club Real Sociedad. The 27-year-old made 44 appearances for Real Sociedad last season in all competition, scored 8 goals, and bagged 9 assists.

Now the question remains, whether Aston Villa can bring more players for the midfield position in the summer or they will keep faith in their new signings.
