It has been confirmed that after two years, Spanish striker Lucia Garcia will leave Manchester United as a free agent by the end of June.

Manchester United have confirmed that their star striker will be leaving as a free agent. Lucia Garcia will be joining Mexican side Monterey on a free transfer. This was really heart-breaking as Garcia played a huge and important role in Manchester United. In 60 appearances, she scored 16 goals, including a brace in their FA Cup final where they won 4-0 by defeating Tottenham.

Monterey offered her a contract with better terms which made her switch clubs. She is thankful for all the time she has spent with the Reds.

“For me, it has been two incredible seasons. I was so happy to have been a part of this team and to have helped the team. We are like a family.”

“But at the end of the day, I have to say goodbye. That’s so hard for me, and the only thing I can say to you all is I love you [from] the bottom of my heart.”

State of Manchester United right now

Apart from Lucia Garcia, many senior players will be leaving the club as free agents. Some of them are Mary Earps and club captain Katie Zelem. Manchester United women’s team’s biggest achievement in the Women’s Super League is finishing 2nd. They did win the FA Cup in the previous season after defeating Tottenham 4-0. Garcia scored a brace in that match and helped the Reds win their first trophy in their history.

After the takeover, people expected that the board would work on the female team. Minority owner Jim Ratcliffe mentioned, that, right now, they are going to work on the men’s team before starting anything with the women’s team. Many have criticised him because of seeing the men’s team as the only priority right now instead of seeing United as a whole.

How are Manchester United planning to replace Garcia

Manchester United knows how much it affects when they lose a player like Garcia. They know that the team needs a prolific goal scorer. A player who is more of a goal poacher. The Reds are very close to sign Brighton’s striker Elisabeth Terland. The 21 year old could be the perfect replacement for Lucia Garcia. In the previous season, she managed to score 13 goals, finishing as the second highest goal scorer in the league alongside Chelsea’s Lauren James. She can be a valuable addition to the team who can help them win the league one day.
