Alexis Sanchez opens up on his goal celebration against Barcelona

Alexis Sanchez recently spoke about celebrating a goal against Barcelona, in Sevilla’s 4-1 win.

Sevilla’s Alexis Sanchez shines against Barcelona

Alexis Sanchez scored a penalty against Barcelona on the weekend. But, he likely never tried to grab the headlines. The forward scored to give Sevilla an early 1-0 lead. But, it was what his celebration that drew all the eyes. Earlier in the day, Sanchez said that he wouldn’t celebrate against his old club. But, he just could not resist.

As he later admitted, emotions ran high, and instinct took over. “Sometimes the excitement overcomes me,” he said, owning up to what was clearly a heartfelt, spontaneous reaction rather than planned disrespect.

It was a hugely exciting win for Sevilla, one that ultimately drove Sanchez to admit that despite his promise, the emotion of scoring at the home ground got the better of him.

Respect still stands

Even though he had spent almost too much time celebrating, Sanchez made it clear that there was no grudge against Barcelona. In fact, his passion for the club surpasses anyone else. Prior to the match, Sanchez only had praise for La Masia, the renowned academy that shapes young players to play with discipline and with awareness and love for football for football’s sake.

He shared how that club had shaped his football IQ and how, today, the education is still how he observes and plays. The way he speaks of Barca makes it clear, the celebration was not revenge, it was passion and passion is what makes football unpredictable and alive.

Author’s Opinion:

Sanchez simply reminded them that he and other football players are human beings as well. The celebrating happened in the heat of the moment. That’s what fans love and that’s what makes football a real sense of something that can’t be faked at any moment.
