Ali Suzain is satisfied with the SAFF Championship Fixtures

Ali Suzain is the Head Coach of Maldives National Football Team. Further in a recent interview Suzain looked satisfied with the revised schedule for the SAFF Championship. In addition the 13th edition of the SAFF Championship will commence from 1st of October 2021.

Certainly Maldives will host this tournament. And this tournament will end at 16th of October. However initially the Tournament was planned to take place in Dhaka at 2020. But due to Global Pandemic the SAFF decided to postponed the tournament.

Additionally several other cities in Bangladesh where looked as alternatives. Even the SAFF also considered to shift the tournament to Nepal. However after several discussions SAFF announced Maldives will be the right place to host the tournament this year.

While the tournament initially planned to end at 13th of October some teams will have only two days as rest period. However for the Participating team to gain FIFA rankings points the revised schedule of the tournament will help them. So as per FIFA guidelines, there should be three days of rest period between matches to gain FIFA rankings points.

Certainly due to the changes in schedule Maldives will face Nepal on October 1st. And followed by Bangladesh, Srilanka and India on October 7, 10 and 13 respectively. And the top two teams will move to the Finals on 16th of October.

In addition Ali Suzain on Thursday said that he is satisfied with the schedule and added that Maldives last match will be against India.

Most importantly Bhutan will not participate in SAFF Championship this year due to the country’s travel restrictions. Additionally Pakistan will be left out from this year’s tournament due to the ban imposed by FIFA.
