Barcelona midfield jewel set himself a goals-to-be-scored challenge

Pedri

Barcelona jewel Pedri has seen a meteoric rise ever since his debut in 2020. The midfielder has since made his debut in the senior national squad of Spain. He has displayed his capabilities as the perfect interior for any positional play side. His performances in the Euro 2020 were magnificent as he went to win the Best Young Player award.

Barcelona star Pedri looks determined to improve on his scoring skills

Ahead of the new season under Xavi, Pedri has set himself a new challenge to reach double-digit scoring numbers, which is his only weakness. According to a report by local Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Pedri wants to break the goal tally of previous seasons and reach double digits. In his debut season, he racked up a sensational 52 appearances for Barcelona, in which he scored four goals. His injuries overshadowed the 2021-2022 season. However, in the 12 appearances in the league, he scored three goals while assisting one.

Following last season he has worked on his physique and his finishing. Under Xavi, the interiors have been given more freedom. The gaffer demands the interiors to make intelligent runs into the penalty box to be at the receiving end of passes. Pedri has undoubtedly profited from the role. In the current season, he has started all four matches. In the game against Real Valladolid, he scored with a cold finish from just outside the box. The efficient finishing would surely motivate him to take more shots.

With FC Barcelona looking to reclaim their lost prominence, Pedri would surely be an essential part. He is the best ball progressor, as visible from his recent outings. The 19-year-old would also like to keep his excellent performances consistent to make the cut for the Spain national squad for the World Cup in November. Luis Enrique has put his faith in teenage talent as he has been a regular starter for the national team.
