Barcelona overdependent on Lewandowski?

After Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski is one of the best strikers on planet Earth. The Polish is absolutely on fire for Barcelona and is already La Liga’s top scorer. He has had a fresh start and a new challenge in his career. But it is quite astonishing how well the 34-year-old has kept his body performing at such a high level. Leaving a club like Bayern Munich was never easy for Lewy but Xavi convinced him. Lewandowski wanted to be the center of a new project which is what Xavi promised him. And neither of them has gone back on their words. Xavi has started the former Bayern man for most of the matches while Lewy has repaid that trust with goals.

It is no secret that winning the Ballon d’Or is one of Lewandowski’s biggest dreams. He deserved it in 2020 but France Football was never awarded the Ballon d’Or for that year. And that surely infuriated the Barcelona man as winning the award became his target. Also, the striker fell out of favor at Bayern Munich which is when Barcelona offered him a contract. It is no doubt that Barcelona have the biggest history in terms of Ballon d’Or wins and winners. Lionel Messi remains unmatched with 7 golden balls which is what motivated Lewandowski to come and join the Catalans.

Lewandowski also feels at home in Barcelona despite this being his first season only as the fans keep chanting his name. He has so far scored 18 goals in all competitions for the Catalans. Even though Barcelona have crashed out of the UCL, the Europa League will be something that Xavi will be keen to win. They sit top of La Liga, ahead of Real Madrid by 2 points. Xavi will hope his side does not lose their momentum after the WC 2022. One positive thing is that the whole squad might just be available after the world cup. The likes of Araujo, Kessie, and Roberto will also be back from their injuries.

Xavi wants more from other Barcelona forwards

Xavi has time and time again lauded the effect that Lewandowski has had in a short time at Barcelona. The Polish forward is on 18 goals for the season and is having a terrific season. Barcelona are out of the UCL this season but have the Cup, La Liga and Europa League to play for. But Xavi is concerned about the over dependency of Barcelona on Lewandowski.

After Lewy, the next best forwards have been Dembele and Ferran Torres. But they have been quite average which is a big reason why Barcelona exited the UCL for a 2nd consecutive season. Ansu Fati’s decline is something to worry about while Raphinha and Torres have not hit the standards expected of them. It is time that Barcelona have other players who must step up to put an end to the club’s poor performances over the last seasons.
