Barcelona team news vs Real Sociedad

Julian Araujo

FC Barcelona returns to action against Real Sociedad this Sunday. The Catalans will be looking to bounce back after a frustrating game against Vallecano last Saturday. Barcelona was the better team for the entirety of the game but could not get the ball in the net. Coach Xavi was happy that the team was creating chances but admitted that Vallecano played a good game. Robert Lewandowski had an off day at the field as Rayo came up with a plan to limit his presence.

Barcelona went into their opening weekend with a clean list of players. The same appears to be the case this time also. Xavi used all the 5 subs he had last Saturday as the coach was desperate for a victory. Raphinha, Christensen, Kessie, and Lewandowski all made their appearance for the Blaugranas. All 4 would be hoping to make an impact against La Real. Jules Kounde is yet to be registered as departures have to take place for him to play for Barcelona.

However, Barcelona will be without the suspended Sergio Busquets. The Captain was sent off against Vallecano in the closing stages of the match. Xavi has admitted that Barcelona will miss Busquets but they have got enough quality to replace him. With Nico Gonzalez gone, Xavi will most likely resort to Pjanic or Kessie for the Defensive Midfield role. La Real are a difficult team to play against with their constant threats from the flanks. Xavi will want his team to dominate possession while also limiting Sociedad’s attack.

Barcelona’s predicted Lineup against Real Sociedad

Barcelona is predicted to once again go for a 4-3-3 formation. Marc Andre Ter Stegen will be starting in between the sticks once again. The German was at his best against Vallecano and will be hoping to build upon this form. Ronald Araujo is almost a guaranteed starter for Xavi. The Other Centre back will be decided between Christensen, Eric Garcia, and Gerard Pique. Jules Kounde is still unregistered and would not play unless a last-minute change happens.

Frenkie De Jong will be hoping to get a start after an impressive cameo last week. Pedri had an injury scare, with his coach confirming it was nothing. Kessie also looked Injured but once again, Xavi confirmed it was nothing. The Attack seems to be the main worry as Ansu Fati was impressive off the bench last week. This would mean either Dembele or Raphinha benched with Lewandowski as the No. 9.
