De Jong Adamant to stay at Barca

Barcelona

Frenkie De Jong and his future are still the most debatable topic in world football at the moment. The 25-year-old has been the prime target for Manchester United. The Red Devils already have an €85 million agreement with Barça over a transfer for the dutchman. But an agreement won’t do any good if the player is not wanting to leave the club.

That is the situation with Frenkie De Jong at the moment. The midfielder is adamant about staying at Camp Nou and succeed under Xavi. Xavi is a big fan of De Jong but is very well aware of the salary limit that Barcelona have. The club cannot exceed the wage cap that La Liga has set, with De Jong being the highest earner at the club.

This has left him with 2 proposals. He has to either reduce his salary significantly or he has to leave the club. The dutchman has refused to reduce his salary further, after having already reduced it during Covid Period. This has made the open club talks for him with other European Giants. Manchester United have been the frontrunner in securing him.

Laporta Holds Meeting With De Jong

President Laporta recently held a meeting with Frenkie and his agent. The Spaniard was not shy in explaining the situation to him. The meeting concluded with Frenkie having to accept a salary reduction or leave the club for big money. However, the meeting did not change De Jong’s decision. The midfielder is not settling for an exit away from Camp Nou.

His agents are also not accepting a wage cut and are willing to continue the same contract. The new signings made will have a hard time getting registered in La Liga if Frenkie does not accept a wage cut.

Xavi has spoken to de Jong and is happy to count on him. But De Jong won’t be a guaranteed starter as there are 7-8 midfielders at the club. Thus, It will be interesting to see how this saga ends. The fun fact is that the midfielder does not want to join Manchester United at any cost.
