Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho Are in Awe of Each Other

Roberto Firmino scored in the 90th minute to help Liverpool snatch a win against Tottenham Hotspurs. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are now 3 points clear of Jose Mourinho’s Coys and lead the table.

Both teams were on the level with points before the game with Tottenham leading on goal difference. Goals by Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min in the space of 7 minutes saw large parts of the game on an undecided scoreline.

Before the start of the game, both managers had only good things to say about each other.

Klopp and Mourinho praise each other:

Klopp boldly stated that Jose Mourinho has turned Tottenham into a result machine. He picked out the fact that Jose’s success comes from him prioritizing results over style.

At the end of the day it is all about getting results and that is the best skill of Jose because in the decisive moments he is not bothered about style he is just bothered about the result and that makes him the most successful manager around and I respect that.

Jurgen Klopp

He added on by saying that Tottenham look more confident under him. The counter-attacking football and top-class defending impressed him.

Has he reinvented himself? I don’t know – it looks a little bit like that when you see him on Instagram! Tottenham have the quality of the top teams and when they have the ball they show that. They defend like a top team and at the moment probably have the best counter-attacking movements.

Jurgen Klopp

Mourinho too praised Klopp for transforming Liverpool into the team they have become. However, he felt that the better team lost.

Jurgen arrived mid-season, not easy. Then the second period of that second half of that season they were already improving. They knew what they wanted, they stuck together, they believed in each other, great transfer windows, great evolution of the players they had.

I’ve been in clubs where we reached similar levels of success so I know well what it takes to reach this kind of level.

– Jose Mourinho
