Kerala United capture Santosh Trophy winner Mithun V.

Kerala United FC have succeeded in securing the services of Kerala’s Santosh Trophy-winning stopper Mithun V. The man from Kannur is one of the biggest players from Kerala.

He has registered six Santosh Trophy final appearances to his name.

Mithun’s most memorable moments come in the form of two eye-catching saves in the 2018 Santosh Trophy final. It was in this match-up that Kerala achieved victory, beating hosts Bengal 4-2.

Kerala Unied gain huge experience with Mithun arrival

At Kerala United, the 28-year-old joins hands with head coach Bino George once more. The pair were together when Mithun the captained the Kerala Santosh Trophy team in 2019 with Bino George at the helm.

Post-signing, Mithun was quoted : “Happy to be part of a professional club in Kerala. I want to give my best to take Kerala United to the I-league. I also want to thank United World group management for welcoming here to Kerala“.

I-League Qualifiers are to begin on the 4th of October 2021. Kerala United happen to be the only club successful in making it to the qualifiers.

Mithun received the Kerala Football Association mens’ footballer of the year award on Saturday. The goalkeeper’s heroics in the 4-2 win over Bengal handed Kerala their first national football championship title in 14 long years. This title marks their 6th trophy overall.

Son of former Kerala Police goalkeeper Murali V, Mithun was a squad member of the SBI – Kerala football team. He is a graduate of SN College, Kannur. His outstanding performances earned him the title of the best goalkeeper in the TNIE GOAL all-Kerala inter-collegiate football tournament 2013.
