About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Luis Suarez took a dig at FC Barcelona while celebrating the La Liga title win with Atletico Madrid. The Uruguayan was sold by the Catalan club last summer, and the Madrid side welcomed him with open arms. His 21st goal of the campaign secured a 2-1 comeback success at Real Valladolid, and Atletico Madrid went to win the title after 7 long years.

Suarez had 283 appearances, while 195 goals and 183 assists in six prolific seasons with the Catalan side. He was allowed to leave Camp Nou for a transfer fee of just €6 million to Atletico Madrid because of his age.

Then-Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu was keen on a squad transition. He believed selling the older players would help the case. However, the plan to sell Luis Suarez to Juventus failed, and the striker eventually joined Atletico Madrid.

It was not a bad deal for Atletico as he has helped them to win their 11th La Liga title this season. While he lifted the title for the fifth time in his career. During the post-match celebrations with his teammates, Luis Suarez was interviewed, and he did not miss the opportunity to take a dig at Barcelona.

“I am filled with emotions. I had to live through a difficult situation, starting the season being under-appreciated. Atletico opened the door to give me the chance to show that I could still be a force. That’s why I’m always going to be grateful to this great club for trusting me.”– He said

Suarez was sad to leave Camp Nou earlier this season after six long years. He had tears in his eyes while he was talking about the pain he suffered while leaving Barcelona and his best friend Lionel Messi.

Suarez will continue for Atletico Madrid while Barcelona still look for his replacement

Luis Suarez is expected to continue at Atletico Madrid after finishing as their top scorer this season. Atletico would also be keen to keep him for as long as possible.

Suarez appeared 38 times while scoring 21 goals and 7 assists this season. He expects to continue his terrific form for next season. He also stated that he will try to stay fit and be on the first team sheet for much time.

As for Barcelona, they are still trying to sign a replacement for Suarez. They have approached Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay on free deals this summer. The Catalan side has reportedly agreed upon a deal with the Manchester City star, and the Argentine will be signing the paper after he plays the Champions league final.

Memphis Depay is also close to moving to Barcelona. The Dutchman is also a free agent at the end of the season, and currently, he is working with his lawyers for a move to Spain for next season.
