Manchester City attentive to Bayern Munich defender’s contract situation

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Earlier this week Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany claimed that contract talks between Alphonso Davies and Bayern Munich have stalled. The reason being reported is that Bayern are currently unwilling to meet the left-back’s demands as they feel his performances have been underwhelming of late.

Now – thanks to TEAMtalk – Manchester City’s response to these talks stalling has been disclosed. It is said that the treble winners are paying close attention to the situation. It is also said that City would be tempted to make a move for Davies if the price is right.

Last chance for Bayern Munich if they want to sell Davies for a fee

The current contract of Alphonso Davies with Bayern Munich runs until the summer of 2025. Therefore, the upcoming January window and the summer transfer window may be the German giant’s final chances to get something for the 2020 UEFA Champions League Defender of the Season. The Canadian could agree a pre-contract move elsewhere in January 2025 and move for free in the summer.

This situation is a good news for Manchester City as Davies may be available for a cut-price fee.

Pep and Man City have a decision to make

Based on several reports, it seems as if Pep Guardiola has decided to sign a new left-back. It has also been reported that Pep likes Davies, but there are other options as well.

A story from 90min claimed that Manchester City are keeping a close eye on Chelsea‘s Ian Maatsen as he enters the final six months of his contract. There have also been strong links to another left-back in Boca Juniors’ Valentin Barco.

Therefore, Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain must now decide whether to rival Real Madrid for Bayern Munich defender Davies, or attempt to sign Maatsen or Barco.
