Newcastle United pushing for a move for Kieran Trippier

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Newcastle United are pushing for a move for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier. The Magpies have reportedly made the signing of English international a top priority for the January transfer window. The club has suffered a bad run of form and ended most of their Premier League outings in losses. Despite the takeover by their new Saudi owners, Newcastle have performed below average.

The English outfit relieved head coach Steve Bruce of his duties after they failed to win important games. Management went on to procure the services of Eddie Howe, who previously managed Bournemouth in the English top-flight. Newcastle will surely be active during the winter transfer window of 2022 in order to reshape their team for a New Era.

However, a change of manager did not change their fortunes the way they might have expected. Newcastle United are currently 18th in the Premier League after winning just one game so far. Only three points are separate them from Watford, who are just outside the relegation zone. Trippier has emerged as a top target for them to revive their current season. Kieran Trippier is on top of Eddie Howe’s wish-list who has previously signed him for Burnley in 2012.

Kieran Trippier’s eagerness for a return to Premier League could boost Newcastle United’s chances of signing the Right-back

Newcastle United have struggled defensively this season. No other club has conceded more goals than Eddie Howe’s squad (34), which is why they are linked with several defenders. Newcastle are also plotting a move for Lille Centre-back Sven Botman. However, they are aware of the competition they must face for the Dutch Under-21 international.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the English outfit are ready to make a move for the signing of Trippier this January. The defender has six months left on his current deal with the La Liga outfit. It is understood that he will trigger another year’s option if he starts 20 games.

The right-back is open to a return to the English top-flight next season. The 31-year-old was also heavily linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer. But the deal never materialized as the Atletico Madrid wanted over £25,000,000. The English International is available on a Free next summer. However, Atletico are likely to demand a fee in excess of £20,000,000 if Newcastle try to sign him in January.
