Odisha FC Terminate Stuart Baxter’s Contract Amid Rape Remarks

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Odisha FC sacked head coach Stuart Baxter after his impolite comment, during the post-match presentation after their 0-1 loss against Jamshedpur FC.

The Juggernauts claimed a penalty in the box when Diego Mauricio was fouled by Jamshedpur’s goalkeeper TP Rehenesh. The on-field referee entirely ignored the foul and kept the game flowing.

“You need decisions to go your way and they didn’t, I don’t know when we’re going to get a penalty. One of my players would have to rape or get raped in the box to get a penalty,” Baxter had said during the post-match presentation.

Certainly, Odisha had released an official statement on their social media on Tuesday regarding Baxter comments. The statement announced the termination of the head coach contract with immediate effect. However, The club’s management immediately apologizes in regard to their head coach’s offensive comment.

“Odisha FC has decided to terminate Head Coach Stuart Baxter’s contract with immediate effect. Interim Coach for the remainder of the season will be announced soon.”

It is completely unacceptable whatever the context and does not reflect the values of the club. We, at Odisha FC, unreservedly apologize and the club management will handle this matter internally.”

The club’s recent tweet announced that Assistant coach Gerald Peyton will manage the club for the rest of the ISL 2020-21 season.

Odisha FC is currently at the last position at the standing table with 8 points in their accounts. They managed to win a single match in the ongoing Indian Super League against Kerala Blaster FC.

They will face ATK Mohun Bagan in their next fixture under the guidance of the new coach.
