Potential Opportunity: Liverpool’s 22-Year-Old Defender Under Arne Slot

Bailey

Liverpool’s 22-year-old defender might get a chance to play for the main team with Arne Slot as the manager. If Arne Slot becomes Liverpool’s manager next season, it means many players will start with a clean slate.

For players who didn’t get much chance under Jurgen Klopp, this is their moment. It’s also a chance for those who weren’t part of Klopp’s plans or didn’t fit his style. While Arne Slot might have a similar approach to Klopp, it’s not exactly the same, so some players could get another chance to show what they can do for Liverpool. This might even include players who have crossed paths with Slot before.

Van den Berg’s Potential Path to Liverpool’s Main Team

It’s interesting to note that when Van den Berg joined PEC Zwolle as a young player, Slot was already playing for the senior team back in 2012. We don’t know if they met during that time, but since they’re both Dutch, they probably know about each other already.

Van den Berg has been considered a promising player since he started playing in the Eredivisie and joined Liverpool. Some even compare him to Virgil van Dijk.

However, he didn’t get many chances to play under Klopp. Instead, he improved while playing on loan. This season, he’s having his best loan spell, impressing in the Bundesliga with Mainz and becoming a strong defender.

Because of the Dutch connection and Liverpool needing more center-backs, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Van den Berg join the main team.

Rising Star: Van den Berg’s Chance to Shine

As we’ve discussed, Liverpool rates Van den Berg highly. He’s received praise for his impressive loan spell at Preston North End. He’s seen as a player with a lot of talent, especially considering he’s only 22, which is still young for a defender.

Earlier this season, he even had similar success to Van Dijk in winning aerial duels. It would be disappointing if he doesn’t at least get a chance to show his skills during Liverpool’s pre-season this summer.
