Premier League Team and Player of the Week- Gameweek 14

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

What a week of Premier League football we witnessed. As we had predicted last week, the packed scheduling produced some incredible performances this week.

After a rather defensive mid-week, most teams stepped up the gear and played with the sole focus of plundering goals. They played a beautiful game in the most beautiful manner ever.

How the Premier League Games Went:

The round started off with Liverpool travelling to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. The result set the tone for the rest of the week. A thumping 0-7 victory inspired by a near-perfect performance by the whole team. It felt like every time they attacked, they got a goal.

Manchester City managed a 0-1 win over Southampton to put an end to their run of frustrating draws. Everton defeated Arsenal 2-1 to make it 3 wins in the 3 games. However, Arsenal slumped to a 5th defeat in 7 games.

Sheffield United played Brighton and Fulham played Newcastle United to finish the score-lines at 1-1 for the only draws of the week. Danny Welbeck scored in the 87th minute to avoid Brighton’s 2nd loss in 3 games.

Leicester City defeated Tottenham Hotspur away 0-2 to move to second. Tottenham however lie at sixth after being on the top just weeks ago.

Now to most exciting game of the week. The game that had everyone on the edge of their seats for the whole game. Manchester United vs Leeds United, the biggest rivalry renewed. Manchester thrashed Leeds 6-2 but that is just a blurry picture of the game. Press, Counter-Attack, Goal, Repeat. The will and mentality were so high that even Roy Keane smiled in the end.

West Brom lost 0-3 to Aston Villa at home while Chelsea beat West Ham 3-0 at home. The win took Chelsea to 5th and Aston Villa to 9th.

Burnley defeated Wolves 2-1 to come out of the relegation zone.

Premier League Team of the Week:

GOALKEEPER:

Kasper Schmeichel(Leicester City)

A strong performance between the post to keep a clean sheet. Make a good save of Harry Kane’s shot.

DEFENDERS:

Andrew Robertson(Liverpool)

Another top-class performance by the Scot. A constant threat down the left and got an assist.

Thiago Silva(Chelsea)

Showed why he is known as one of the greatest defenders. Got himself on the scoresheet with a bullet header.

Jonny Evans(Leicester City)

Did not give the Tottenham attack many options. Instrumental in keeping the clean sheet.

MIDFIELDERS:

Scott McTominay(Manchester United)

Was all across the field. Played the actual definition of a box-to-box midfielder. Scored 2 goals in the first 3 minutes, a Premier league record.

Jack Grealish(Aston Villa)

Tore down West Brom’s defence every time he had the ball. A constant threat throughout the game.

Bruno Fernandes(Manchester United)

Pulled the Leeds defence towards him like a magnet before sending a gem of a ball to an unmarked player.

Fred(Manchester United)

Always trying to win the ball. Brilliant partnership with McTominay.

Mason Mount(Chelsea)

Dictated the attack. Another stellar performance by the playmaker.

FORWARDS

Roberto Firmino(Liverpool)

Clever movement on and off the ball. Got 2 goals for his efforts.

Tammy Abraham(Chelsea)

2 perfect strikers’ finish from the lad. Scored the 2 of them in 80 seconds.
