Liverpool are reportedly exploring the possibility of pursuing Roma’s Italian midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 24-years-old Italian international has been in pretty good form for Paulo Fonseca’s side in this term. He has made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine times and getting eight assists. The midfielder has netted five times and registered six assists in 31 Serie A outings this season.
Pellegrini is an academy graduate of Roma, having joined the club in 2007, he made his senior debut in 2015. However, he departed for Sassuolo later that year for €1.3 million. There he made over 50 appearances across all competitions before returning to Roma in July 2017 for €10 million.
The young midfielder’s contract with the Giallorossi will end in June 2022. This has spread a host of speculation surrounding the midfielder’s future in recent months.
Will Liverpool buy Pellegrini from Roma?
Pellegrini has made 17 appearances for the Italian national side and managed to find the back of the net twice in his career so far. He made his first appearance for the senior national side in an 8–0 victory over San Marino in an unofficial friendly match on 31 May 2017, coming on as a half time substitute for Daniele Baselli.
According to Mirror, Liverpool are a long admirer of Lorenzo Pellegrini. The 24-years-old midfielder is still to agree on a new deal which is on the table since Christmas.
If the Italian international doesn’t sign the contract extension by the summer he will be sold. However, he fits the bill perfectly for the Reds. They are likely to be in the market for Georginio Wijnaldum’s replacement as Pellegrini seems perfect for it.
Roma have appointed a new manager Jose Mourinho for next season and he has already asked for new signings in midfield. However, this raises the question of what the future will hold for the young midfielder.
It will be interesting to see what will happen with Pellegrini at Roma after the appointment of new legendary manager Jose Mourinho. Will Pellegrini sign his contract with Roma and be a part of the project of Mourinho or will he be sold to Liverpool when the transfer window opens?
