Romelu Lukaku not leaving Inter Milan this season

Inter Milan won the Serie A title this season for the first time since 2012. The process had started a season ago with the signing of Antonio Conte. Without wasting a minute, the former Scudetto winning manager brought Romelu Lukaku to Inter. The Belgian was not having the best of seasons and sought to make the best of this move.

A month ago, Romelu Lukaku won the Serie A MVP award. The former Chelsea striker has scored 64 goals in 95 games after arriving at San Siro. This season alone, he bagged 24 goals and 11 assists in the Serie A. Along with Alexis Sanchez and Lautaro Martinez, Inter were uncontainable in the final third of the pitch.

However after the historic title win, Conte decided to part ways with Inter Milan. Inter are set to release a number of players as a part of their cost-cutting efforts to cope with the impact of the pandemic. Manchester City and Chelsea were quick to get in talks to sign Lukaku. However the striker has pledged that he would stay.

Attempts made by Chelsea

Olivier Giroud will be leaving Chelsea this window. Tammy Abraham too is on his way out and Chelsea are in search of a forward. Lukaku has his history with Chelsea, not something he really cherishes.

Thomas Tuchel has shortlisted Lukaku along with Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. He had been in an exceptional form in the Euros scoring at will. However, an impressive Italian performance meant that Belgium would not proceed further.

Lukaku at Inter

Lukaku’s career took a turn at Inter. Serie A is comparatively slower and more focused on aerial duels, Lukaku’s strong point.

Lukaku has said that he is looking forward to work with newly appointed manager Simone Inzaghi. He added that he will stay to win more Scudettos. Now that’s a man with a plan.
