Ruben Amorim, manager of Sporting Lisbon, has been in the lead to join Liverpool. He is set to replace Klopp at Anfield in the summer. It came as bad news to the Liverpool faithful when their legendary manager Klopp decided to leave. However, Ruben Amorim could come in as a great replacement for the German. Ruben will have to fill the shoes of one of the most loved and successful managers in England. It will be an intimidating task to join them as manager. Klopp has won everything there is to win with the Reds. Even the Champions League and the Premier League. Ruben will be under scrutiny immediately after joining the club. It will therefore be intriguing to observe which path Anfield’s higher authorities choose in their pursuit of a new coach.
Graham Souness thinks there are better options than Ruben
Graham Souness was asked who he would like to replace Klopp. He answered with Jose Mourinho. It was unexpected but does make sense. The Portuguese is out of work in the summer; Anfield could be a fitting destination. However, it is unlikely given his history with Manchester United. Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton has also been tipped as an option. His team has been scoring for fun in the Premier League this season. A manager like that is certainly an option for the Reds. However, Sporting’s Ruben Amorim looks the closest to joining the club as of now. There have been multiple reports about him being in contact with Liverpool management. All of the managers being tipped to be in a conversation with Liverpool could potentially mark a new era at the club.
Souness said,
“I don’t think that would be impossible.”
“They have big shoes to fill for whoever follows Jurgen.”
“But he would get that relationship with the supporters. He’s an aggressive and confrontational man. The supporters of Liverpool like all of that. You can see how they love Jurgen being like that. It would not be a problem.“
Klopp being regarded as higher than Mourinho: “Higher? No. The simplest way to answer is the trophy count at the end of the season. What Klopp has done and what Mourinho has done. I think it boils down to a trophy count at the end of it, and then there might be another angle to it. What cups have you won? Let’s take it down to who has won the most Premier League and Champions Leagues. That, for me, would decide things.”
