Skipper Francisco Fernandes scores brace in Vasco SC win

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Skipper Francisco Fernandes netted twice in Vasco SC’s 4-2 win over Sports and Cultural Club in the Selvel Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.

Sheldon Pereira from Velsao SCC broke the deadlock in the 34th minute. The ball ricocheted into his path from a free-kick through Velito as he tapped the ball home for Velsao. The backline for Velsao then did well to somehow keep a clean sheet in the first half as Vasco kept knocking on the door.

Vasco then came into the second half with a lot of desire. They first equalized through Alson Fernandes in the 52nd minute from a set-piece. They then took the lead in the 58th minute when the skipper Francisco slotted home from a cutback.

The match was not short on entertainment as Velsao equalized 4 minutes after losing their first-half lead. The match was then set up for a climactic end in the last quarter. James Fernandes was wasteful as he fluffed two sitters. Vasco then took matters into their own hands. Savlon Fernandes was the first to breakthrough in the eventful last half an hour. The skipper Francisco Fernandes then added the cherry on top as he doubled their lead with a fine finish to seal the win for Vasco SC. Cavin Lobo was the playmaker for the final goal who found Francisco for the final goal.
