Suvam Sen, The man with the great fighting spirit

Suvam Sen, the 33-year-old Kolkata-born Goalkeeper, is a known face in the Bengal Football circuit. To establish his childhood dream, Suvam has always been restrained, laborious, and modest. From starting his football career at the Kolkata Maidan to making his debut in India’s top-tier football league, Suvam Sen’s journey has been inspirational to any young athlete.

Suvam Sen, born with a fighting spirit:

Suvam Sen, growing up familiar with Kolkata Maidan, dreamed of being a Footballer. From his childhood days, he was very passionate about his dream. Overcoming all the surrounding obstacles, he continued his struggle to achieve his goal.

Throughout Suvam’s entire career, he had to face a lot of hardship to get his place in the playing eleven. Though his self-confidence, eagerness, stubbornness, and dedication always keep him on track on his way to success. It has to be mentioned that Anup Nag and Ashoke Bhattacharya were the two men who always supported Suvam through thick and thin.

Initial Career:

Suvam started his professional career with Guwahati FC. Later in 2017-18, he joined Mohammedan SC in the I-League 2nd Division. He has played only three matches for The Black Panthers, where he kept a clean sheet.

In 2018-19, he was signed by Calcutta Football League (CFL) side Calcutta Customs. Then coach Shankarlal Chakraborty signed him for Bhawanipore FC. There he played a match in the I-League Qualifiers, where he also kept a clean sheet.

He also wore the jersey of United SC under Nabab Bhattacharya. Gradually, he worked more on his skills and strengths, and his career graph arose.

Performance in ISL:

After his notable performance under the bars, Suvam got an opportunity to wear the Read and Gold Jersey. In 2020–21, he signed for East Bengal as their fourth goalie. Maidan’s Tatai Da has made his debut in his maiden ISL season. In that season, he played five matches and kept two clean sheets.

His instrumental performance in the 2021–22 ISL season’s 1st Kolkata Derby put his name under the spotlight. In that match, Jersey Number 25 came in at the 22nd minute after a horrible injury to their first-choice goalie, Arindam Bhattacharya.

While he came in, his team was losing by 3-0 in that high-voltage, prestigious match. Going forward, he has made some tremendous saves with a cool and composed mind to rescue his team from conceding.

As the boy from Uttarpara appeared as a wall under the bar, the match ended with a 3-0 result. Otherwise, the result would be more pathetic for the Bangal Brigade.

In 2022–23, he was again signed by EB management after the injury of their first team GK Naveen Kumar. This season, he played in three matches under the bar after the injury of Kamaljit Singh. With his acrobatic goalkeeping, he saved East Bengal many times from humiliation.

However, Suvam got released by the management this year, as they are not considering him for their upcoming season.
