Aaron Hickey was offered £18 million to join Arsenal

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Aaron Hickey drew attention from the North London giants as Mikel Arteta is keen on improvising the team’s defensive lineup. Attaining a total of 48 goals last season, the Gunners are unhappy with their back four.

Arsenal’s benefit from Aaron Hickey

The Gunners’ top priority was, to sign a new wingback on the left and create a vie for Kieran Tierney. Coming into the trade period, the club’s technical advisor Edu is hoping to buy the 19-year-old for £18 million.

Most importantly Hickey is versatile enough to switch positions to the other side of the field. The Scot displayed his talent on the pitch whilst an international match against Ukraine. Just in case Arsenal’s current right-back, Takehiro Tomiyasu is unavailable Hickey can gladly take this spot.

Other clubs interested in Aaron Hickey

The current Bologna player has been playing for the country for a long time now. However, this never became an obstruction to his Arsenal move.

However, other Premier League teams are after his signature in the next transfer window. The likes of Newcastle, who recently were taken over by the Arabs could be cashing all in for players now. In addition to them, Brentford has also been keen on signing the Bolognian for some serious money.

The current situation

Arsenal Writer from Football London, Kaya Kaynak provided an update on the Hickey situation, explaining that no bid was made as to the Gunners’ full-back situation is perfect and looking out for upcoming stars like Lino Sousa or Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

There are a lot of players in the Gunners’ dressing room that are unhappy and wish to leave. This has the fans’ hands on their foreheads wondering when they’ll find their glory days.

“Arsenal hasn’t bid for him yet,”

Kaynak told reporters.

“They’re interested in him but they haven’t quite bid for him yet. I think Brentford and Newcastle have also shown an interest so that’s something to keep an eye on. He’s a very good player, so they have to get a move on if they want that deal over the line,”

the writer added.

It was furthermore mentioned that this deal will depend on how things will go for Nuno Tavares from the Gunners’ defense. The Portuguese left-back is more likely to leave Arsenal for Atalanta and Cedric Soares also will be another departure from the Emirates Stadium.

Should Hickey sign for Arsenal?

Arsenal is packed with 4 defenders to play on the sides and also has brought in 2 young talents from Lino Sousa and Brooke Norton-Cuffy. Under circumstances like Soares and Tavares leave, that’s where Aaron Hickey comes into play.

Aaron Hickey has a pretty heavy demand from the North London side. Above that, if he proves to be another worthy find for the Gunners, even his paystub could see a significant increase in numbers. It would anyway be an amazing opportunity for the Serie A player to play alongside the likes of Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli.
