AC Milan board poised to make 6 signings this summer

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

AC Milan had a very good season after a really long time. It was good to see the Rossoneris back demolishing teams as they led the Serie A charts until December. City rivals Inter Milan, were on a good run too with Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella wrecking havoc across Italy.

However injuries along with a packed schedule exposed the weakness of the squad. The bench was not strong enough to carry the team forward. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the side’s main goal provider at the start of the season. However, muscle injuries forced him to stay on the bench for a good part of the season. Inter seized this opportunity to go ahead and gather a lead that would become impossible to cover.

By the end of the season, AC Milan finished 2nd with 79 points. Inter tallied a total of 91 points taking the title home with 5 games remaining. Noting that the squad needs competition within itself to improve, directors Paulo Maldini and Ricky Massara want to improve the squad in 6 specific areas.

The 6 spots Milan have to fill this window

Firstly, the club in looking for a pair of wing-backs to play deputies to Theo Hernandez and Calabria. The duo have been Milan’s warriors at the wings running up and down the pitch. Hernandez’ speedy runs and continuous overlaps are what kept the clubs attack threatening during Zlatan’s absence.

Soualiho Meite will return to Torino and so a new midfielder is a priority. Upfront, the most important and likely signing, a second-fiddle to Zlatan. Olivier Giroud has been linked with a move to Italy ever since his minutes at Chelsea became scarce. Though he has been vital to Chelsea, the move has always been coming.

Another major priority is a replacement to Hakan Calanhoglu. The Turk has a contract that expires this month and is likely to move to the Premier League next season. Rodrigo de Paul is the dream replacement of the board. Udinese are asking €35-40 million but Maldini wants to negotiate.

The final area that the club feels they need improvement is the right-wing. Samu Castillejo is nearing an exit and the board is looking for a player who is ready to run at his opponent and be a greater threat in front of goal.

Transfer situation at Milan this summer

Milan are going to have a very busy summer transfer window. Apart from the 6 positions mentioned above, other deals which are not a priority are pursued by the club.

The club wants to sign Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea after his loan deal ends. Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave the club ending weeks of speculation of a possible contract extension.
