Alberto Noguera: The unsung hero in the midfield

Alberto Noguera, the Spanish midfielder, has played for the Gaurs and the Islanders in the Indian Super League. The former Atletico de Madrid midfielder is now plying his trade with two-time ISL League Shield winner Mumbai City FC. Noguera is instrumental at the center of the park with his excellent skills and versatility.

Player Profile: Alberto Noguera:

Alberto Noguera started his youth career with Spanish club Getafe FC. Later, the attacking midfielder also played for several Spanish football clubs like Rayo Vallecano B, Rayo Majadahonda, and UD Sanse.

In 2009, Noguera signed for Atletico Madrid and joined their C team. Later, he was also promoted to Atletico B in 2010. The Madrid-born midfielder played 62 matches for Atletico Madrid B in LaLiga 2, while he played two games for Atletico Madrid in LaLiga.

After leaving Atleti, Noguera went to play for Blackpool, FC Baku, Trival Valderas, and Fuenlabrada. In 2016, he signed for another Spanish side, Lorca FC, and played 71 matches for them. Before coming to India, he played for other Spanish sides like CD Numancia and Racing Santander.

Performance in ISL:

In 2020, Spanish tactician Juan Ferrando brought the midfield maestro to the ISL for the first time with FC Goa. The 33-year-old Spanish midfielder spent two seasons with the Gaurs and displayed commendable performances in the center of the park. Noguera played a total of 45 matches for the Gaurs, scoring five goals and providing ten assists.

In his maiden season on Indian soil, the fans have shown a Spanish flavor in his style of play. His quick passing, creativity, positioning, ball possession, and intelligence fascinated the supporters. In the 2020–21 season, Alberto Noguera won the Durand Cup with FC Goa.

Later in 2022, Noguera joined Des Buckingham’s Mumbai City FC on a free transfer and has added extra strength to the squad. He continued to play a key role in Mumbai’s midfield and has displayed an impactful performance in the last year. The fleet-footed midfielder also won the Hero ISL League Shield with Mumbai City FC last year.

Noguera has extended his contract with the Islanders for another season. His ball distribution, passing accuracy, quick through passes, and consistency are second to none. Noguera, Mumbai City’s new No. 10, is hopeful to have another successful year with quality performances and clinching trophies.
