Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira set to sign for Fiorentina

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly on the brink of joining Italian club Fiorentina as per the report from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano

The 25-year-old has endured a torrid time since arriving at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta did not fancy the Uruguayan in his squad and sent the midfielder out on loan to Atletico Madrid last term.

According to Romano, Lucas Torreira is set to join Fiorentina on an initial loan deal with an option to buy. La Viola will pay around €1.5 million for the loan and will have to pay around €15 million to purchase the midfielder permanently.

The Journalist further claims that Eintracht Frankfurt made a last-minute attempt to snatch the deal away from the Serie A side. But the 25-year-old only wanted to go back to Italy. The Uruguay international will become a Fiorentina player in the forthcoming hours.

Torreira opted to join Fiorentina over Frankfurt:

Fiorentina are trying to rebuild their squad under the new manager Vincenzo Italiano’s guidance. Italiano likes to implement a 4-3-3 formation, unlike the former manager Giuseppe Lachini who used a 3-5-2 formation.

Strengthening the squad with experienced players like Torreira will only benefit Fiorentina this season. La Viola have Dusan Vlahovic upfront who guarantees goals. Therefore, building a strong midfield will help the young forward to showcase his talent.

On the other hand, the Uruguayan’s departure will free up space for the north London club to bring in new signings. Having already spent almost £129 million, the Gunners still need a new striker and a right-back this summer. The 28-year-old’s exit will help Arteta to sign his targets at this late stage of the transfer window.

So, it will be interesting to see how the north London club can turn their fortune around this season after losing the opening two games of the season.
