AS Monaco interested in signing Bayern Munich Star

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng is wanted by his former manager Niko Kovac at AS Monaco. Boateng who will be a free agent at the end of the season is considered as the main target for Kovac, the former Bayern boss who is currently managing Monaco.

Ever since taking over at AS Monaco, Niko Kovac has done a brilliant job. He has turned around the fortunes of a struggling Monaco side. His team is currently 3rd in the Ligue 1, just 5 points behind league leaders Lille.

AS MONACO AND BOATENG- A MUST FOR NIKO KOVAC?

The latest rumor linking Boateng with Monaco was reported by France Football. Niko Kovac is looking to add experience to his backline as they head towards a new season. Currently, the squad has an average age of 24.7, and Guillermo Maripan is the oldest centre-back on the team at the age of 27.

Hence bringing in one of the experienced figures like Boateng free, will help to give more composure at the back. The German is a serial winner having won 9 Bundesliga titles and 2 Champions League titles with Bayern Munich. He was also the main centre-back for the German National Team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Jerome Boateng has played 361 matches for Bayern Munich. He has also represented his nation 76 at the senior level. After 10 years with Bayern Munich, the club and player have seemed to decide to not extend the contract. The player thus will be available for a free transfer this summer.

OTHER TRANSFER TARGETS

The report also mentions that Monaco is interested in Borussia Dortmund’s goalkeeper Roman Burki. Burki lost his starting place in the team due to poor form. Currently, Marwin Hitz is the main goalkeeper for Dortmund and they are said to be ready to let go of Burki for as little as €5 million.

This is good news for Bayern, because of Monaco’s earlier interest in their second-choice keeper Alexander Nubel. Nubel, who moved to Bayern last season has not been able to replace the legendary Manual Neuer. He has just made 3 appearances for the German champions this season and at 24 would want to play regularly at the top level.

Monaco under Kovac will be looking to close their gap with the league leaders and hopefully win the Ligue 1 title. The club seems to be confident with their Croatian manager and is willing to back him in the transfer market.
