Axel Disasi not utilized properly says Joe Cole

Graham Potter

Chelsea legend Joe Cole is not a fan of Axel Disasi playing at right-back.

Not Utilised Rightly

Naturally, Axel Disasi plays centre back for Chelsea. Having purchased him from AS Monaco for £38.8 million (Sky Sports) in the summer. But in the Blues’ 2-0 loss to Brentford, Mauricio Pochettino began him on the right side of his defence.
Furthermore, Joe Cole claims that the role is not a good fit for him in a TNT Sports interview.
For the Brentford loss, Pochettino may have started Disasi at right-back since Reece James is making a comeback from a hamstring injury.
Cole feels that Disasi is not a suitable right-back.

Not Natural Position

The former England international remarked of the Frenchman on TNT Sports: “Disasi has played right-back at times, which doesn’t suit him.” He performs admirably at centre half and is a talented player.

Definitely not, especially because Malo Gusto is no longer suspended and James is back to full fitness. It’s not a job that fits him, as Cole said.
Standing at six feet three, Disasi is a large defender who lacks quickness.

He is winning the second-highest average of Pochettino’s team’s aerial duels this season, 2.4 per game, according to WhoScored. His talent in the air is what makes him strong. And that’s where you want him—not chasing wingers on the flank.

Axel Disasi starts in the center

He would no longer be expected to start at right-back against Tottenham Hotspur tonight, but rather in central defence with Thiago Silva.
Disasi really has no business starting at right-back now that James and Gusto are back, since Marc Cucurella is a player who is likely a better match for the position than the 25-year-old.

Despite being a left-back by nature, Cucurella has played right-back this season, however he has acknowledged that the switch has not been easy. However, the Spaniard ought to be chosen above Disasi if Chelsea is without their regular choices in that position.
